Assoc. Prof. Pelin Karaçay

Asst. Prof. Karaçay completed her PhD in 2017 at Istanbul University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing Fundamentals focusing on simulation. During her doctoral education in 2013, she took courses as an exchange student at The State University of New York University of Binghamton Decker School of Nursing. She started the first simulation training for trainers program in Turkey and continued to give this course at Semahat Arsel Nursing Education, Practice and Research Center (SANERC). In addition, nursing skills teaching, and clinical teaching are her greatest strengths she is also specialized in simulation. She was a visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 2011. In addition, she had the opportunity to observe simulation activities in many schools in the USA and England and work with the faculty members.She took an active role in the establishment of the simulation laboratory of Koç University School of Nursing, writing clinical scenarios and integrating this training strategy into the curriculum. She has national and international work on nursing education and simulation-based learning. Dr. Karaçay works as a faculty member at Koç University School of Nursing. She is also content expert and course coordinator in many courses, such as Basic Life Support, Basic Life Support Trainer Training, Basic Electrocardiography, Educator Nurse Training, Physical Assessment and Emergency Nursing, which are given to health professionals since 2004 at SANERC. Dr. Karaçay had taken Interprofessional Education (IPE) training for the trainers. She took an active role to start IPE at Koç University and she has been organized the first IPE workshop in Turkey to increase awareness regarding IPE education at SANERC. Dr. Karaçay has been a head of the SANERC Executive Board and the Associate Director of SANERC since 2020. She has also been the manager of the SANERC Journal of Education and Research in Nursing (JERN) since 2021, and the Director of SANERC since September 2022.
