Prof. Ayişe Karadağ

Prof. Ayişe Karadağ graduated from Hacettepe University School of Nursing as the top student in 1992. She received her master’s (1994) and doctorate (1999) degrees from Hacettepe University Health Sciences Institute, Department of Nursing Fundamentals, and received the titles Associate Professor (2006) and Professor (2011). She completed the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing (WOCN) certified training program between July 6 and August 29, 2003, at Dr.Turnbull JR., School of Enterostomal Therapy Nursing/Cleveland. Prof. Karadağ started studies on the development of Stoma and Wound Care Nursing in Türkiye and blazed the trail. She pioneered the establishment of the country’s first stoma therapy unit (2000-), the launch of the Stoma and Wound Care Nursing Certification Program (2001-), and the Certified Training Program at SANERC (Semahat Arsel Nursing Education, Practice and Research Center, 2018-). Prof. Karadağ served as the founding president and president of the Wound Ostomy Incontinence Nurses Association from 2008 to 2018. Additionally, she was a board member from 2010 to 2018 and served as president from 2018 to 2021 at the Wound Care and Tissue Repair Association. Furthermore, Prof. Karadağ represented Türkiye as the delegate at the World Council of Enterostomal Therapists. She took charge as Colorectal Surgery Nursing Congress President, Wound Care Congress President, and Stoma and Wound Care Nursing Course Chair. She worked on law and regulation studies on Stoma and Wound Care Nursing in the Ministry of Health and took charge as a scientific committee member, chair, speaker, educator, and consultant in many national and international scientific activities. Prof. Karadağ has many national and international articles, book chapters, books, consensus documents, and awards in her field. She received the JWC “The Best Research From a Developing Country” award in 2015 and was the Silver Winner of The Journal of Wound Care and World Union of Wound Healing Societies Awards 2020 for “Contribution to Education in Wound Care” in Türkiye in the field of Wound Care Nursing. Prof. Karadağ has been conducting the “Pressure Injuries,” “Wound Care,” and “Stoma and Wound Care Nursing Certified Training Program” as part of SANERC since 2014. She served as the Deputy Dean of Koç University School of Nursing between November 2016 and September 2017. Prof. Karadağ was a member of the board of the SANERC between November 2016 and July 2024 and was the Dean of Koç University School of Nursing between September 2017 and July 2024.
