The aim of this course is to enable nurses who are working or who will work in the field of oncology to learn evidence-based, up-to-date information on cancer diagnosis, treatment, and care processes and to contribute to improving the quality of care of cancer patients/families.

Objectives

Participants who successfully complete this course:

  • Understands the roles and responsibilities of oncology nurses.
  • Discusses the concepts of oncology nursing.
  • Knows current practices for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • Comprehends the principles of safe preparation and application of drugs used in the field of oncology.
  • Accurately defines the side effects and pain associated with cancer treatments.
  • Plans care using up-to-date evidence on side effects and pain management related to cancer treatments.
  • Defines the nutritional problems of cancer patients correctly and includes current approaches to the solution of these problems in the patient care plan.
  • Defines emergency situations accurately in cancer patients, knows current approaches and plans care
  • Knows the important points in patient education and discusses what to consider in patient education planning.
  • Knows and correctly defines the psychosocial problems experienced by cancer patients and their relatives.
  • Plans and implements care for the solution of psychosocial problems experienced by cancer patients and their relatives.
  • Communicates positively with cancer patients and their relatives.
  • While caring for cancer patients and their relatives, they learn to maintain their own well-being.
  • Knows the problems experienced in end-of-life care and discusses solutions.

Duration of the Training Program

The program has a total duration of 3 working days and consists of 20 hours of theoretical training. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive 20 ANCC credits.

Educators

In this program, Multidisciplinary (nurse, physician, psychologist, dietitian, pharmacist) educators, consisting of academicians and clinicians who are experts in the field of oncology, take charge.

Education Materials

Training documents are prepared using evidence-based information and are updated every year. These documents will be shared with the participants before the program.

Success Criteria

Participants make a “self-assessment” at the end of the education program.

They must attend all training. 10% absenteeism is acceptable only in special circumstances.

Certification and Validity Period

At the end of the education program, participants who complete the education program according to the course criteria will be given a Certificate of Participation. The certificate is valid for five years. The certificate is signed by the Director of SANERC at Koç University and the Nurse Planner. The course duration and course subjects are specified in detail on the certificate.

Clinical and academic nurses who work or who will work with cancer patients can participate in this program.
