Educator Nurse Training Program​

Aims

This course aims to improve the teaching knowledge, attitudes, and skills of nurses with undergraduate degrees in order to effectively plan, implement, and evaluate the education programs in participants’ healthcare institutions. The course covers literature review, needs assessment, course design, educator communication skills, receiving and giving feedback, teaching methods and tools, and assessment and evaluation.

Objectives

Participants who complete this course successfully will be able to:

  • Describe the concepts and processes of adult education.
  • Analyze the educational needs of nurses or another target group.
  • Design an appropriate education program for the target group’s needs.
  • Choose appropriate learning strategies and techniques to achieve the objectives of the education program.
  • Prepare course content based on best practices.
  • Deliver course lectures and presentations effectively using teaching and learning methods based on best practices.
  • Evaluate the course lectures and presentations of colleagues in an appropriate manner.
  • Emphasize the use of evaluation and feedback for effective teaching and learning.

Duration of the Training Program

The total duration of the training program is 5 working days and consists of 26 hours of classroom presentations and practical sessions. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive 26 ANCC credits.

Koç University School of Nursing faculty members, Koç University Office of Learning and Teaching educators, and Koç University Suna Kıraç Library experts who have experience in this field.,

Course Materials

The training documents are prepared using evidence-based information and are updated according to changes in international literature. These documents will be provided to participants at the start of the program.

Success Criteria

At the beginning of the education program a pretest and at the end of the education program a posttest is conducted. Additionally, participants are expected to prepare and present a lesson plan individually and/or in groups at the end of the course.

For participants to be considered successful:

They must achieve an average score of at least ’80’ from the individual/group presentations and the results of the posttest. They must attend all training. 10% absenteeism is acceptable only in special circumstances.

Certification and Validity Period

At the end of the education program, the successful participant is given a ‘Certificate of Success.’ The certificate is valid for five years. The certificate is signed by the Director of SANERC at Koç University and the Nurse Planner.

The course duration and course subjects are specified in detail on the certificate.

Who Can Participate?

The nurses who have a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree from the Nursing Department of schools such as School of Nursing, School of Health, School of Health Sciences and work in a private or government healthcare institution and taking part in theoretical / clinical education can participate in this course.

The course is limited to 25 participants.

Location

The training program will be held at the Koç University Semahat Arsel Nursing Education, Practice and Research Center on the Koç University Health Sciences Campus.
