Gerontology Nursing Course
Aims
The purpose of this program is to train gerontology nurses who, through preventive, promotive, and rehabilitative interventions, enable the physical, economic, psychological, and social empowerment of elderly individuals. These nurses utilize theoretical and evidence-based knowledge to provide healthcare services to the elderly and their families, are sensitive to public health in terms of preventive healthcare services, respect human rights and dignity, and possess the ability to act in accordance with legislation, professional values, and ethical principles.

Objectives
Participants who successfully complete this course:
- Explain current conceptual, theoretical, and practical knowledge specific to elderly health.
- Describe international/national policies and regulations related to aging.
- Adopt principles of health improvement/promotion, personal development, and lifelong learning for healthy and active aging of the community.
- Explain and interpret changes, problems, and management related to aging.
- Adopt a person-centered care approach for elderly individuals.
- Be knowledgeable about human rights, legislation, and ethical principles in elderly health.
Duration of the Training Program
The total duration of this program is 2.5 working days and consists of 20 hours of theoretical education. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive 20 ANCC credits.

Education Materials
The training documents are prepared using evidence-based information and updated according to international literature changes. These documents will be provided to participants at the start of the program.
Success Criteria
A “pre-test” will be conducted at the beginning of the training and a “post-test” at the end. Participants must score at least 80 out of 100 on the post-test to be considered successful. Those scoring below 80 will be given another chance to take the exam within a week. Full attendance is required, with a maximum of 10% allowable absence under exceptional circumstances.
Certification and Validity Period
At the end of the education program, the successful participant is given a ‘Certificate of Success.’ The certificate is valid for five years. The certificate is signed by the Director of SANERC at Koç University and the Nurse Planner.
The course duration and course subjects are specified in detail on the certificate.
Who Can Participate?
All nurses working in home care centers, nursing homes, and long-term care institutions who provide healthcare services to elderly individuals can participate in this program.
Location
The training program will be held at the Koç University Semahat Arsel Nursing Education, Practice and Research Center on the Koç University Health Sciences Campus.
