She completed her doctorate in the field of Psychiatric Nursing, on coping with post-traumatic stress disorder at Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GATA) School of Nursing in 2001.

After teaching at the same institution for two years, she joined the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing Postdoctoral Education Program in 2003 and worked there as a visiting researcher for one year. She attended undergraduate and graduate classes at Johns Hopkins University. She took seminars and courses on trauma and disaster issues. She has been the Head of the Department of Psychiatric Nursing at GATA School of Nursing since December 2004 and received the title of Associate Professor in Nursing on September 22, 2011. She retired from the Armed Forces after a one-year career as Head Nurse at Sarıkamış Military Hospital. She still works as a faculty member at Koç University School of Nursing. She works as an educator in Educator Nurse Training, Intensive Care Nursing, and Palliative Care Courses conducted by SANERC. She has psychodrama Co-therapist and EMDR therapy certificates. Her education and research focus on traumatic stress, psychological first aid, care problems in psychiatric services, therapeutic environment practices and psychosocial issues experienced by individuals and families with life-threatening diseases, therapeutic communication education, and research.
